Also, “conflict of interest” is rampant in graduate classes. I took a grad class as an undergrad once, where the problems were so hard, the TA couldn’t do them! But the TA got the answer key from the prof in advance, so a lot of the students in the class who were friends of the TA got hook-ups. I’d, on the other hand, spend 20 hours to figure it out on my own
For these reasons, any sexual relations or dating relationships The prohibition also extends to graduate, professional, or undergraduate.
This is probably an unpopular opinion but I enjoyed grad school way more than I did college. I appreciated the smaller class sizes, the more intensive research work I got to do, and the ability to work alongside professors I’d admired for years. The academic experience wasn’t the only way grad school was different from college, though. After two years as a grad student, I learned that dating in grad school brought with it an entirely new rulebook I hadn’t read in college.
As a grad student, you’re in a different phase of your adult life. You’re most likely in charge of all of your finances now, you probably have fewer roommates, and hopefully, you’re more inclined to do your laundry yourself rather than taking it all home for your mom. I know, I know. Change is scary but I can confirm that Cheetos will remain one of your main food groups so you can at least take comfort in that.
Apart from these personal life changes, you’ll notice a few differences in your love life as well, especially when it comes to casually dating.
Some of my students have repeatedly invited me to have lunch with them, to get drinks with them, etc. The professor teaching this class has emphasized to me that it is part of my job to get to know the students and to alert him about those who might be in need of any kind of help. However, I am wondering if Cornell has a policy about non-romantic relationships between graduate TAs and their undergraduate students.
Are there any formal rules I should be aware of?

A number of colleges and universities banned faculty-undergraduate dating or otherwise shored up their consensual relationship policies after the Education Department published a reminder letter about sexual harassment liability, in Other institutions had adopted such policies earlier. And while many involved in or affected by these decisions support them as preventing potential abuse, others remain critical of policing connections between consenting adults.
Fear of legal liability and increasing acknowledgement of academic power structures changed that, leading institutions to adopt a mix of policies regarding these relationships. Its rationale for doing so, stated in the policy itself, sums up much of the thinking behind blanket bans on undergraduate-faculty dating. Northwestern previously banned relationships between graduate students and faculty supervisors.
There is no hardfast rule about these policies. Somewhere in the middle of the policy mix, the University of Wisconsin System in banned faculty-student dating graduate or undergraduate where an advisory or supervisory relationship, or the potential for one, exists. Pre-existing relationships must be reported. Syracuse University is considering something similar. The latter policy was a compromise, following debate over an ealier version that would have banned dating between graduate students and professors in the same program.

Need you guys opinion I’ve heard about some college girls dating a TA in-exchange for little “help” I admit I dated a girl from a class I tutored we’re both undergrads , and sometimes we got “private session” a week before an exam no dirty mind please. Do you guys think it also unprofessional to do such thing anyway? Although it could be problematic if they end up in some section of yours in the future, but you should be able to avoid that with planning, or if not address it with the professor in charge before hand and come up with a workaround.
Nothing wrong professionally with it if you don’t interact with the student in any sort of “official” capacity e. TA or class instructor , especially if the undergrad is in a different field! It would be a big problem if you are dating a student you are currently TA-ing or teaching. Most schools actually have some policy on this, official or not. They usually tell us that if you really think you want to date, then wait until the term is over and all the marks are submitted so that the student is not longer your student.
I think if you follow these guidelines, then it will be professional. However, everyone else in the department are human and us humans like to gossip so your relationship will probably be talked about. You may be considered unprofessional even if you keep everything strictly kosher. But if knowing that, if the hypothetical couple think that the relationship is worth it, then to hell with others say Eventually, most people will stop talking about it and move on.
